Grasp

Maarten Dumez
Grasp, 2012
White clay, ceramic
This is my sculpture project final. The concept of the piece was to symbolise the act of breaking free of mortal and human binds, in this case represented by the skeletal outline of the hand.

The Adventures of Mr.Nibbles

Maarten Dumez
The Adventures of Mr.Nibbles, 2011
Comic book
A4
This is my first complete comic book. I created it for the Personal Project which is a requirement in the International School Basel and an opportunity to explore something of interest. I decided to explore and improve my cartoon and comic book drawing skills. The comic features no words forcing the readers to focus on the drawings.

Trinity Mutation

Maarten Dumez
Trinity Mutation, 2012
July beetle, glue, canvas
3 canvases of 6cmx8cm
This is my try at an installation piece. I had to wait for the month of july for this project as these beetles only come out of the ground 3 weeks of july. I then had to go through the terrible experience of disecting them alive and stick their limbs onto canvases. The concept of the piece is to show some possible mutations of this insect to make it look like a mythical creature.

Wound

Maarten Dumez
Wound, 2012
Photograph, printed on canvas
This is my try with black and white photography. The concept of the piece was to symbolise the wound of the earth after the World Wars, which is represented by the bunker in the picture. The nature creates some sort of frame around the bunker somewhat creating the effect of the wound healing over time.

Globus Garo

Maarten Dumez
Globus, 2011
Asphalt, latex, sand, spray colour on canvas
120cmx100cm
This final was the product of another three day workshop with the artist Bernard Garo. I used asphalt and latex as main materials to create this piece which was a unique and interesting experience.

Cosmos

Maarten Dumez
Cosmos, 2011
Watercolour and pen on paper
A4
This piece was inspired by the artist Felix LaFlamme. The concept of the work was to symbolise the cost of exploring something as beautiful as the cosmos, death.

The Sepulcher

Maarten Dumez
The Sepulcher
Collography Ink on paper
A3
This final was produced using a collography press. Ink was applied to a palet composed of different materials with different textures that would create interesting shapes when pressed onto paper.
